Gene Wilder: Thank you for making me laugh
When I think of movies like Stir Crazy, or Blazing Saddles, Gene Wilder comes to mind.
I have a confession: I didn’t watch Willy Wonka until late into my adulthood. What an epic film, that was very light, and very dark in the same way. Wilder captured audiences that way.
Throughout his movie career though, there was one thing that made me a little sad about Gene. His loss of Gilda Radner. Gilda passed away when I was young, and it was my first experience (sans losses of family) that I witnessed a very public passing of a loved one. Gene’s love of Gilda was very apparent to me, even being young at the time.
I can’t think of many people that could play comedic roles as straight as Wilder did.
Watch one of his classics tonight, and be thankful that his gift to us will continue on.
Rest In Peace.
