The desire to become an entrepreneur in Montreal has tripled over the last 10 years, and from November 12 to 16 we have celebrated entrepreneurship all over the world as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2018.

This therefore makes it the perfect opportunity to present 6 passionate, risk-taking entrepreneurs who have begun Le Wagon Montréal’s full-stack program this fall in order to learn to code. They have embraced the challenge to invest in 2 months of intensive learning to acquire a new skillset to empower their entrepreneurial venture with strong technical know-how.

We met with Armand Chariot

Armand had already started a real estate investment business while finishing his Bachelor’s degree in Business Engineering.

Describe your entrepreneurial experience

Creating value has always been my first goal since I was a teenager. At 20 I began to trade extensively the Brussels real estate market for fun to enhance my knowledge in this industry. After one year of self-taught learning, I became able to differentiate good from bad deals. In October 2016, with a bit of luck I was negotiating with Befius (a Belgian Bank) for my first bank loan in order to acquire my first Real estate operation (a resale purchase operation). During this process, which went perfectly, I had the opportunity to learn so much practical knowledge about how this great industry works and what important steps must be faced as a real estate investor.
Consequently, I arrived at a point where I was able to create my own real estate investment company and make a living from this fantastic venture.

Why are you learning to code with Le Wagon?

In my opinion, coding is one of the most creative ways to express yourself today.

I wanted to join the tech industry and learn to code to be able to build beautiful new products.

I chose Le Wagon because its coding bootcamp is ranked as the best bootcamp in the world. So far, it’s has been the best choice I made in my life.

What benefit does it bring to you as an entrepreneur?

Since I am an entrepreneur willing to evolve in the tech industry, knowing how to code is such a wonderful ability. Over the past few weeks I have realized that it really suits me well. This new set of technical and soft skills I’ve learned at Le Wagon enables me to be much more independent: I can now create and build new ideas. I also feel more comfortable to continue learning in this industry.

3 tips for aspiring entrepreneurs?

  1. Everything is possible as long as you believe it deeply.
  2. Don’t listen too much to others, especially if they aren’t your target customer or if they have never achieved something similar. (It’s easy to doubt, but difficult to create).
  3. Trust yourself.
