Starting your Business
My thoughts on Proverbs 1:30–31
We often think we’d like doing more of the work we love and less of the work we don’t while taking more time off to enjoy family, our hobbies, or an extra vacation or two.
All too often it is that mentality that brings people to start their own businesses.
Today, while reading Proverbs, I came across the following phrase:
“Well, you’ve made your bed — now lie in it; you wanted your own way — now, how do you like it?” Proverbs 1:30–31 MSG
I think people (myself not withstanding) forget about the ‘lying in it’ part of starting a business.
When you build something from the ground up, you don’t have anyone to blame but yourself. Not even the market or the economy; after all, you choose that market and you decided to start when you did.
So if you’re building your own business, continually remind yourself that you are fully responsible for EVERYTHING involved, on the best days and the worst. And that’s ok, if you’ve got the right attitude you’ll learn a lot from the harder days and the better days will make it well worth the investment.
