By now everyone knows about Apple’s latest SoC. The third generation of their own silicon comes branded as M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max.

The latter being the most powerful chip currently available in the lineup. That chip is designed for two types of people; the first are those whose workflow includes heavy video and photo editing and/or complex graphical rendering. The second group are those that need that badge-of-honour accolade of having the money-no-object latest and greatest.

For everyone else, there’s a choice between M3 and M3 Pro. The sensible option for the average user, I believe, is the M3 Pro. Let’s face it, if you’re buying a MacBook Pro, it’s because you want (or need) a bit more oomph than what’s on offer in the form of the MacBook Air. If you don’t need an M3 Pro, you might be fishing in the wrong pond.

But the issue for me, is that Apple made their M series chips so well, that for about 90% of MacBook owners, their current device is still sufficient.
