Evernote is undoubtedly one of the best notetaking apps available. Best in terms of features, stability, cross-platform portability, and heritage. Yet the announcement of huge price increases threatens to undermine all that.

Evernote have kept their price increases relatively close to their chest, only notifying those members with imminent renewals. Their decision to only communicate it to those they’re obliged to, frankly stinks of containment. There was no major announcement from the company, the only obvious publication was via shocked users taking to social media to announce that their subscription could face up to a 100% price increase.

Evernote did subtly publish an FAQ in relation to the price increase, but not once do they address the starting and renewal price, it remains well and truly tucked away in the closet out of sight. The price increase is justified on the basis it “enables us [Evernote] to invest further in both our core capabilities … and new features…” this after news that the company laid off 129 members of the team to enable them to “pursue our [their] ambitious plans for Evernote”.
