Google weAR app

High-fidelity prototypes of wearOS

If you told me I was going to be tasked with designing an app for Google’s wearable devices 6 months ago I wouldn’t believe you but 2 months into my role at Quadmark I had been given the exciting opportunity to do just that.

A mobile application to educate people on the WearOS operating system as well as giving people the chance to try the watches on themselves using AR technology. The app was aimed at two main user groups: customers and Google Retail Trainers. User personas were my starting ground for research and from this I discovered that it needed to be just as much as an education tool as a sales tool. It needed to make both the Sales rep and customer feel in a position of control.

The navigation played an important role in doing this, it gave me the opportunity of either speeding up or slowing down the content appropriately.

Jack’s Flight Club

Mobile application prototype

This personal project of mine was an exciting opportunity to be free to explore an area I am passionate about — which is (cheap) travel. Jack’s Flight Club is a flight comparison tool with a twist. Instead of inputting your chosen dates and dream destination, Jack and the team choose them for you. When you sign up to the newsletter they send you great deals on flight fares that hope to tempt or inspire your next holiday.

For my project I wanted to rebrand their identity to better position them in the current market as well as freshening up their tone of voice to mature their brand. I designed prototypes for the website, email newsletter, mobile app and social media material.

New brand assets

Hostelworld

High fidelity prototypes for Hostelworld

For this brief I created a social component to the current Hostelworld app that enabled travellers to connect with potential hostel-sharers before, during and after their stay.

Low fidelity prototypes for Hostelworld’s new component

Based on personal experience and mutual opinions from fellow hostel stayers, it was clear there is a stigma around staying in hostels. Although this presented an opportunity to tackle through an awareness campaign, I was curious to explore whether the platform itself could introduce a potential feature that would encourage students to choose Hostelworld when planning and booking their next trip — a solution with longevity.

User Journey for the Hostelworld app

After adding new elements to the app I needed to then understand how they would fit in with the existing product. To do this I created a User journey map that supported my new features.

A more detailed case study on this project is available here, where I identify my problem assumptions and how I tackled them with my research findings.
