How to get the Android Emulator working when you have a Ryzen processor

So, if you’re like me, you haven’t been able to emulate your Android devices on your Ryzen build for quite some time now. Well, July 22nd 2019 is a good day because this is the day you can do the thing.

There’s two ways of skinning this metaphorical cat.

Step zero, check your code in! Back up your computer! Span it across a few floppies if you have to — we’re technically installing pre-release software (its Release Preview, so its very close to being bona fide Release software). If you do the following and your PC asplodes its not my fault — make a backup, check your code in.

First way, join the Windows Insider Program and choose “Release Preview”

Previously, the only way to get this fix was to join the Fast ring. If you like testing software for Microsoft for free, and if you don’t mind a wildly unstable computer, then maybe you would do that. I did that, and my computer went to a janky mess (albeit with a working emulator). So I rolled back.

You can follow the steps here to join the Release Preview: https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2019/04/08/releasing-the-may-2019-update-to-the-release-preview-ring/#61RmuTz2CzsojJMQ.97

After doing this, KB4505903 will install through Windows Update, your computer will restart, and then you’ll be able to do amazing things like this:
