I really hear this, and agree with so much of it (especially that article that circulated a few weeks ago about how MLM is so big with women in the LDS church) except for the part about people doing it for a new identity. I once complained about this and somebody quietly said, “yeah but we really need the money” and I felt pretty bad. It’s a lot of young moms who are staying home because they can’t afford child care, but they still need money.

I hate that their new job involves social pressure and the constant irritation of friends on social media, and I wish they found a different way to make some cash, but it does give me new empathy for how they are feeling when doing it. I think they know its annoying, they’re just a bit desperate
