What are essential oils?

Essential oils are plant aromatics which can be used for cosmetics, medicinal healing (such as in Chinese or Ayurvedic practices), as an anti-fungal/anti-bacterial for cleaning, or as simple as diffusing into the home — amongst many other usages.

Oils are extracted from different parts of plants such as the flowers, stems, leaves, seeds, fruit, wood and bark and undergo a process of distillation to yield a highly concentrated oil with strong aromas.

Usages for essential oils…

For thousands of years, dating back to 2000BC in ancient China and ancient Egpyt, plant aromatics were used for healing, religious and spiritual ceremonies, and as medicine to treat and cure ailments. Aromatherapy was born in 1928 from a french chemist called René-Maurice Gattefossé who discovered the benefits of lavender oil in healing a wound on his own hand.

In the modern western world, aromatherapy has been studied and tried as a viable option for assistance in treatments for symptoms such as nausea, headaches, aches and pains, and more popularly — in cosmetics and perfume — as a more natural and/or organic way to have access to pleasant smells but also the healing purposes as the oils sink into the bloodstream (when applied topically).

Aromatherapy did not gain its traction to what it is in current day until the 1980s but now is being used in natural medicine frequently and even in traditional medicine. Some hospitals use essential oils, in conjunction with conventional treatments, for patients being treated for different cancers.* Overall, the health benefits are expansive and vary respective to the specific essential oil and its usages.

It is important to note that the QUALITY in choosing, using, and blending essential oils is key and organic, therapeutic, high-grade (pure) oils will yield better results than those of pre-diluted, cheaper, and lower-grade oils. This certainly matters when it comes to using oils for specific ailments or therapeutic reasons.

*This in no way is making a claim that essential oils treat or cure illness/disease/conditions in anyway. However, there is low likelihood of any adverse reaction (unless allergic) when using with other conventional treatments.

Why Chakra Balancing Perfume Oils by @lg_wellness?

My goal and aim with developing an essential oil-based perfume oil is multi-faceted.

  1. I am moved to create and share a product that is a result of my passion for alternative/holistic healing through self- care practices (yoga, meditation, Reiki, aromatherapy, crystal healing, etc).
  2. I hope to develop a community connection through a conversation that comes up about “chakra balancing” and energy healing that allows individuals to have access to the language necessary to shape their lives and remove energetic blockages in order to live a more whole-hearted life.
  3. I aim to create a conscious beauty/cosmetic line in the future that focuses on creating impact by giving a portion of proceeds back to yoga non-profits I support in/around Philadelphia.
