Veganism and vegetarianism is challenging the Standard American Diet. Vegetarians forgo meat, but consume other animal products such as eggs and dairy. While vegans forgo all meat and animal products including honey. Veganism originated in Mediterranean cultures, but the term vegan wasn’t claimed in 1944. The history of veganism is worth noting because the choice to be vegan can often be misunderstood. Someone may choose to be a vegan for a wide range of surprising reasons.
