FUTSILVERS Survey & Results
In order to decide whether my idea was viable I needed to do some more research, this time in the form of a survey. Having previously run a YouTube channel based around the same silver player niche as my planned website, I was easily able to contact members of my target audience within the FIFA Community through the EA Forums and Reddit and managed to receive 73 responses to my survey.
Question 1: How often do you visit these FIFA community websites?
To back up my competitor analysis, I was interested to find out which FIFA community websites my potential users currently use. I wasn't surprised to find out that FUTHEAD was the most popular website with most people visiting the site everyday or a few times a week. I was however surprised to see that FUTBIN, a much newer website, had similar results proving that a niche can work.
Question 2: How do you access these websites?
Again based on the websites included in my competitor analysis, the mobile browser was the most popular way to access these websites, with the PC coming close.
Question 3: Which of these website’s features do you use?
I also wanted to find out which of these website’s features people used the most. As FUTHEAD was the most popular website, the squad builder feature came out on top, followed by a player search and player stats.
Question 4: Do you use Silver Players?
Out of the 73 responses, all but one said they used silver players, that response was however a ‘troll’ response based on the individuals answers to other questions. Overall this confirmed that everyone taking the survey could definitely be considered a potential user.
Question 5: When deciding what players to use, where do you look for player reviews?
Because FUTHEAD is the only website with a similar feature to my proposed player review template, I wanted to find out where members of my target audience currently look for player reviews. The EA Forums and specific threads and lounges were the most popular, with YouTube videos the second most popular. FUTHEAD reviews are only used by 19 respondents.
Question 6: Would you try a new community website built solely for silver users?
Simply put, this question enabled me to gauge interest my proposed site built solely for silver users. The response was great with 58.9% of responses saying they would definitely try FUTSILVERS and 38.4% willing to try it depending on the features.
Question 7: These are the features that I currently have planned for this new website. Which of them would you use?
I already had a list of features that I wanted to include but I wanted to know which of those features would be the most popular. 63 of the 73 respondents said they would like to view player reviews with 36 respondents willing to write player reviews, a fairly good ratio. Overall, all the features I had proposed seemed quite popular.
Question 8: Are there any other features that you would like?
Although I had already proposed quite a few features, I offered respondents the chance to suggest additional features. Below are the 19 responses I received, 17 of those being proper features. Suggestions like ‘hidden gems’ and ‘silver player of the week’ ill definitely be looking at further.
Question 9: Would you be interested in testing features of the website and giving feedback throughout the development stage?
The last question asked whether respondents would be willing to test features or give me design feedback. Out of the 73 responses, 46.6% (34 people) answered with a yes, a higher percentage than I was expecting.
