Conversation Hacks for Revelatory Relating
2 min readSep 8, 2019
I love mind-blowing conversations. I love deep human connection.
I hate small talk.
So I designed the Conversation Game.
Here’s a preview:
- What’s one way in which your conception of reality has changed in the last year? The last decade?
- What were you like at age eight and how did that inform you career path?
- What question about reality do you find yourself pondering most often?
- What do you like to be appreciated for?
- What’s the most fascinating thing you’ve learned in the last month?
- Tell me about the last time you did something brave.
- Did learning about science ever destroy the magic of something for you?
- What law would you break if you knew you wouldn't get caught?
- What life are you not living because you are living this one instead?
- Who might you have been in a past life?
- How have you grown up in the last year?
- What do you wish you could believe in?
- Fear is false evidence appearing real. What scares you?
- Why do you think beauty is important?
- When do you feel like a kid?
- When do you feel like an adult?
- What is your most repulsive habit?
- Tell me a secret about the universe.

*This deck was conceived as part of an interactive performance installation I created on Governor’s Island called Wandering Whimsy. Participants were paired at random to partake in a Five Course Meal of Questions. It was a beautiful experiment in spontaneous connections between strangers.
