As an external, a not-American, I don’t understand this hysteria about the “CSA” monuments.

I saw the video on the Confederate statue pulled down in North Carolina and I did not know if to be more amused or horrified. Young white people spat and kicked an old statue, like they absolved their sins. 
Why this? They thought that without the symbols of the CSA, the racism, the violence e the KKK will disappear?

Is this the fear of a political use of history? It is thought that can be solved by hiding some statues in the museums and imposing a vulgate on the Civil War.
