The article I chose was written by a professional photographer. She gives suggestions on how to improve your Instagram feed. A constant theme to the suggestions was consistency. The colors in your pictures should be consistent. This means users should try to stick with one filter or at least filters that look similar. Consistency is also important when choosing the size of your posts. Switching sizes can make your feed look messy, the photographer explains. Consistency comes into play again when talking about content. Some users use their Instagrams for fun, while others use it for professionalism. The photographer says that your Instagram should have a theme. The pictures you post should make sense together, because if users don’t know you then they won’t understand why your pictures have nothing to do with each other. Consistency through feed does not have to limit posts. The photographer states that if you really like a picture, but it is not completely on brand for you then you can post it to your Instagram story. Instagram stories are available for 24 hours and users can add stickers and gifs to them as well. Instagram stories allow for users to post a picture without it being there forever. It is just a blurb of a moment. This can allow for your feed to stay consistent while still sharing pictures you love with your followers.

I think many of the things that the photographer hit on are important to consider with Instagram. Having an impressive feed can be very beneficial. Many millennial users of Instagram get paid to post pictures of products as an “influencer”. Well maintained feeds also increase followers, so many of the photographer’s tricks are handy. Consistency is key. Stay true to yourself and your Instagram’s color schemes. Don’t oversaturate pictures. Use filters that enhance the picture. Instagram shows a little piece of the user. You can tell what a person likes to do and what they’re interested in by their feed. If your message is consistent, users from all over will be able to understand what you are passionate about. Whether or not you use warm or cool colors is taken into account. It shows a piece of you and that is very powerful. The photographer explains that your Instagram doesn’t have to look professional. You can post pictures of just your dogs as long as it stays consistent. I think all of her advice was good advice, and the way she wrote the piece was not pushy or negative. She didn’t make anyone feel bad who doesn’t use Instagram as seriously as she does. She just gave some pointers for those who want to keep their feed consistent when it comes to color, theme and sizing.
