Don’t Wait! The time will never be just right.
If you wait until you’re ready, you’ll be waiting for the rest of your life.

There is no such thing as “the right time.” Sometimes we are afraid to make our next move because we are waiting for the right moment and it will never come. It’s a hard pill to swallow when you realize, you’re the one stopping you from reaching your fullest potential. We may not always see our own potential but other people do, and it’s imperative to keep those people around. You want to have people around that challenge you to show up in the world differently. Even Jesus wasn’t ready to step into his purpose, he was waiting for “the right time” and his mother was there to push him.
Welcome to Day 35 of Curious about Christ! We are starting John today and have finished reading Matthew, Mark, and Luke. There are only 10 more days left in this journey and I can’t wait to see how much growth occurs in the remaining days. Let’s get into the Word of God!
Scripture: “Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.” John 2:4 NLT
Observation: When Jesus and his mother were at a wedding, she noticed that they ran out of wine and told Jesus. He replied to her saying it was not their problem because his time hasn’t come yet. However, his mother knew that it was his time and pushed him into turning water into wine. Then, Jesus changed approximately 150 gallons of water into wine and the wedding continued. This wasn’t any ordinary wine either! The master of ceremonies raved about it saying, “‘A host always serves the best wine first … Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!’”
I find it interesting that Jesus’ first miracle wasn’t even his idea. When Jesus heard that they ran out of wine, he said it wasn’t his problem. He was not ready to reveal his glory because he thought it wasn’t his time yet. However, his mother gave him the push he needed to act at that moment. If Mary wasn’t with Jesus, he wouldn’t have changed the water into wine. She helped him to realize that there is never going to be the right time and he needed to seize the opportunity when it showed up.
Application: If you are currently struggling with not feeling ready, you are in good company. By Jesus’ response to his mother, we can assume that he didn’t wake up that morning of the wedding and think “I’m going to perform my first miracle today!” Luckily, his mother was there and was able to recognize the opportunity for him. That’s why it’s important to have people in our lives who really know us and can recognize when we need a push. Once we get that push and the opportunity is clear, it’s important to take action at that moment. We cannot wait. We must say “yes” to the present opportunity.
Saying yes to something new will change your future. You might see something that sparks a new idea or meet someone who aligns with your purpose. When you step into the unknown, you give God the opportunity to bless you in ways that you didn’t expect. God is trying to send you signs through people and opportunities but you keep blocking your blessings because it’s not how you expected it. I encourage you to say yes a little more this week and see if your life changes. Step out on faith even when you’re not ready and embrace the unknown!
Prayer: Dear Lord, I ask that you give us the confidence to step out on faith. We ask that you fill us with your Holy Spirit so that we can say “yes” to your will. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
