The worst part is that the Nation piece is not a conspiracy theory at all. A conspiracy theory connects multiple facts to draw a conclusion that certain parties are intentionally responsible for those facts.

The Nation piece, however, was simply an application of Occam’s Razor to one fact (the time it took to download the stolen files) to arrive at the conclusion that it was more likely that the stolen files were downloaded onto a thumb drive instead of being transmitted over the internet to a hacker. That’s it! Doesn’t say who downloaded them or what their purpose for doing so was.
