Will they respond in 5 seconds or 5 hours? Who knows! It’s like getting caught in one of those support chats from hell with a Comcast rep who’s clearly trying to simultaneously jockey a dozen text conversations like some kind of bargain basement Bobby Fischer, except that it’s all day long and with everyone I know.
Slack, I’m Breaking Up with You
Samuel Hulick

Good description. I like Slack a lot for communications but it does face have this challenge. I find I often miss important slack messages because I wasn’t looking — I have numerous Slack channels going to with different outside vendors, so it takes time to manage these. I’m still trying to get a hang of the right amount of time to invest into Slack each day to be an active participant and not miss important messages that require a rapid response. One thing that isn’t clear is the response expectation — is it immediate, or is it ok to response in 5 minutes or 5 hours? I’ve treated it like chat where I assume a response is expected right away.
