I think that theoretical (and practical) understanding of existing technological trends, as well as nascent ones, is vital. However, we can never really catch up with the accelerating rate of such developments and discoveries.
What we should be focusing on much more fiercely is skills and domains of knowledge that remain universally relevant and no matter what technologies, social structures, challenges and opportunities the future holds for today’s students, examples of which are listed later in the post (e.g. creative thinking and teamwork).
As the common adage goes — don’t teach them what to learn but how to learn.
