There’s no simple formula to achieve product greatness, but a data-driven and well-focused product strategy can bring you closer to success.

Products don’t reach success out of sheer luck. Many think that all it takes is a great idea and a talented team. It certainly helps having those, but the startup graveyard is full of ideas by talented teams that have failed. Surviving in a competitive market is tough when only 7 out of 10 businesses won’t make it to their 10-year mark.

A product represents the results of carefully constructed planning, which stands on several pillars, such as vision, strategy and goals. While the vision is abstract and driven by a great deal of uncertainty, goals are very precise and…

I have discovered the best approach to create focus around digital transformation. It’s all about top-down and bottom-up cooperation.

The words digital transformation are being thrown around a lot at board meetings. It is an umbrella term for the inner need of a corporation to be ready for the digital future. And to boost efficiency through digitisation, resulting in cost savings. Both are correct. But many times, companies approach digital transformation with a fuzzy framing.

When the need becomes evident, but the challenge appears insurmountable, the board reaches out to big consulting firms for help with designing their digital transformation initiatives. Good move. However, this process often lacks one of the main factors for digital transformation success: internal capacities…

You are probably reading this article from your home. If you are not, then you should.

I am writing this and working from home as are my Beetle colleagues. As is the majority of Slovakia and most people across the globe. Social distancing is the norm right now and despite it being proven effective to slow down the spread of COVID-19, it still has large implications in the economy and people’s well-being.

A study from 2015 points out that social isolation presents health risks similar to those of obesity, smoking and physical inactivity. Although such risks are more prominent when exposed to longer periods of social isolation — which we hope will not be the case…

Honest notes from a diary of a 40-member service design studio specialized in UX research that suddenly had to go virtual.

Some say: If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans. I rather say: Thank God we can still have plans and a reason to laugh, even in difficult times.

In this article, we show you both — the spotlights and the backstage of our work. You’ll see how LB*, a 40-member service design studio specialized in UX research, managed to transform into a remote agency in just a week due to the coronavirus outbreak. All projects running smooth, all teams working comfy from the safety of their homes.

Our UX designer Petra describes the tools and process we utilized to keep the value we deliver to our customers and our marketing manager Dominika follows the radical change to our company setup while keeping the employees motivated and efficient. …

We came up with this interface during a hackathon back in September 2017. Never would we have imagined it could possibly save lives.

March 2020. Most of the world has gone non-contact and digital. However, for many people banking still remains a duty preferably fulfilled offline. This innovative ATM could be an effective way to reduce the number of customers inside the bank branches and keep both the customers and the retailers safe and healthy. It is able to serve with as little contact as possible — using face recognition, voice control and AI chatbot.

We came up with this idea during the first LB* hackathon in September 2017. Our goal was to find a suitable UX problem, to define it correctly and…

Working from remote places or in distributed teams doesn’t have to be a blocker for effective collaboration. These easy rules allow you to conf call like a pro.

Most of our design work is highly collaborative and agile rituals such as standup, demo or planning are one of the keys to our success. We do our best to keep them under any circumstances so we put together a few rules to improve teleconference experience for everyone attending. Doesn’t matter whether you are the organiser or not, suggest the rules to the attendees and embrace them during your calls.

1. Connection

Most problems occur because of a poor connection, so make sure your device is connected to a solid and reliable network. …

How we work is how we win. Here’s an overview of our favorite working rituals that help our teams in LB* to be constantly on fire.

Can you imagine a morning without a mug of freshly brewed, amazingly fragrant coffee? Me neither. We all have these little things that make our days go the way we enjoy them. In his book, The Story of Philosophy, Will Durant says:

“We are what we repeatedly do.”

And that is the kind of thought that fits us in LB* perfectly.

Why we love rituals

In our work, change is constant and we need to be flexible. In particular because we consider ourselves lean. There is no such thing as a stereotype for us. However, it is very easy to forget and to turn…

Product owners often fall into the urge of putting every campaign information on a homepage, not considering the needs of a user who comes to the website. But even if the intentions are good, it only gets them in a trap of not being able to prioritize the information they want to provide. And eventually, the one struggling the most is the user. The same thing happened to the homepage of a telco provider Orange Slovensko.

When we looked at the data, it was more than clear that users were not given the primary information they came for, so they…

It seems like even nature knows how to run flat companies. I compared the LB* studio to a life of bees.

It has already been a couple of months since I started working at LB*. My journey as a UX designer started pretty quickly and after a few days of education, I suddenly faced my first challenges in several projects as a team member. Very soon, even though I was a bit unsure how to handle all the unknowns, I was positively surprised. I found out that our company’s values are significantly different from any I already knew.

I got a picture of several principles that reminded me of a book by Piotr Socha called Bees, which I bought a few…

Crashing an idea ain’t pretty

Two years ago, we had a shiny idea that could be used by hundreds of thousands of users. We were bold and determined to make it happen. We had to be fast because there was already competition on the market. We did a survey, we did a prototype, we even had a business model and some kind of business plan. Even before coding, we were thinking of networking with potential investors.

After 3 months, we succeeded to welcome onboard one full-stack developer. We created a beta version of the app for Christmas 2018. It turned out, even our family was…
