Great design, shoddy engineering
This is my husband’s book. It is quite possibly one of the most beautiful handmade books I have used. The pages are also handmade with delicate olive colored leaves embedded in them that makes for a texture that is inviting and airy. The spine is some kind of light colored bark — potentially plantain. It makes me nostalgic.
The spine just broke after I wrote in it for two days! The codexes inside may come unbound as well if the binding unravels like it is threatening to.
I tested the thread and it snapped — it is made of the same leaf colored material as the spine color. Completely wrong choice. The stitches also look very suspect. This is a great example of a product with great design, but poor engineering.
