Jan 1, 2016.

A day most people are talking about resolutions. I vigorously discussed them as well…in fact it came up many times through the NYE celebrations.

However, I couldn’t come up with something that spoke to me at a deeper level. The usual gym, healthy lifestyle and work life balance felt empty and things I have resolved to do such as 100 new experiences felt simply indulgent.

So I went for a run to clear my head! Yes, the irony!

That didn’t give me too much… so I spent 2 hours cooking dinner.

When I finally sat down to write a few pending restaurant reviews on Yelp, that I was finally able to verbalize something that was in my head thus far.

This year I commit to going back to basics.

  1. I had ambitions to become a journalist, or a writer of some sort. So this year, I commit to going back to writing. It may be as simple as a diary such as this, a travel story or a story about an observation. This is the space for it and this is the first of them.
  2. I commit to learning a new skill (e.g. coding, piano) and get better at 2 others where I have some existing knowledge (Golf, Dance, yoga).
  3. I commit to living a gracious life. Calmer when stress hits, grateful for life and what it has given me, thankful to those around me, reaching out to connect deeply with others and be better able to manage my emotions.

The run and the time spent cooking gave my mind the much needed introspection to crystallize my thinking.

Here’s to 2016!
