The Story presented from a Picture Poster

How can we communicate the message through a picture poster to encourage the businesses and the community members to participate together with a social enterprise to channel the potential food waste or lost to the community of needs especially those in community with food insecurity while enabling a viable society through community works that can be created with this social enterprise.

The Poster

Poster to communicate the message for the needs to channel any potential food waste or lost to the community that is in need of food security.

The food

The fresh produces we shop at supermarkets and retail stores mostly are in regular size and shape or similar texture and freshness. This means a set of requirements are given to the producers and farmers to select those produces that meet such requirements. This would create various outcomes, one is that those misfit or imperfect ones that can’t meet the requirements would have to go somewhere or wasted. Second, a fixed quantity needed by these channels also potentially resulted in excess produces that producers would not picked and leave them to rot at the farms. Thirdly, due to transportation and movement, some produces could be bruised and could be discarded or sold at discounted price.

The Community of Needs

How can we communicate the message of needs by these communities which is amounted to around 1 out of 5 people living in this world. Food is a necessity for a healthy child or an active adult in order to pursue their life activities either on their learning journey to be educated or working and contributing to the economy while having the ability to bring food to their family. Everyone can have a fair chance of success if the basic needs such as food can be addressed. A child can be helped for a better future if we could enable such community development. Thanks to this photo taken by @aamir.aimer which provides a powerful message for the needy.

The Link

A bowl to contain the cooked food, how can we enable that? If a community kitchen can be setup to receive the supply of those imperfect or misfit fresh produces and have them prepared and make available to the needy and feed the people who potentially can also contribute one way or another, that’s the message of hope.

The Composition

Impecfect ‘Food’

The word “Food” is using the font similar to the handwriting instead of standard system font to symbolise the imperfection or dissimilarity but still carry the characteristic or content. Food which is imperfect can still be consumed by having it cooked into a nice nutritious meal.

The photo of misfit or imperfect fresh produces with a different angle of view

The Upside Down Photo is trying to bring the message of potential food waste when they are about to be thrown away. Fresh produces that are dumped together in large quantity is one of the causes of greenhouse gas emission.

Overlay of grey photo with the background photo in light tone of colour for the ray of hopes.

The image of grey photo of the child symbolises the world they are in while overshadowed by the image of the imperfect food photo. It presents the hope of channeling such supply to the needy to make their world a bit more colourful, joy and beauty with good health.

The hope of contribution by the community to create a solid footing for the needy.

Similarly for the title word of “imagined Socially” which is not in solid colour as the desire to make it a reality that socially we all can participate and contribute to humanity and protecting the environment we live in.

The empty solid bowl is waiting to be filled with the food for the needy.

The empty bowl with a spoon shown in solid colour of grey symbolises the possibility of a community kitchen where the supply of the imperfect produces can be cooked into a nutritious meal to fill up the bowl for the needy.

We hope this picture poster can communicate the message needed and bringing the awareness to more people and hopefully, the creation of such movement by community to gather the necessary resources to create such social enterprise to benefit more people.
