Introduction:

With the increase in technology, the interest in software has started to increase. Many news that we have come across in recent years supports this. Favorite child of recent years: “Developers”

But are the software developers satisfied with their work?

Many of us may have personal opinions about it, but what does the data tell us about it? Therefore here is the analysis of the Stackoverflow 2019 survey result to find an answer to this question.

The survey has many questions include geography, experience, gender, age, job satisfaction. You can find more about in here

Question 1

How satisfied are you with your current job?

This question asked to 88883 person and 70988 of them answered according to the graph. As you can see in this chart, the majority of the audience are satisfied with their jobs.

That chart makes me wonder, the answer is same for every gender?

Let’s dive deep on this chart to look at gender distribution with question.

Let’s look at the women

Within 6344 women, 36.6% of them said ‘I am very satisfied’ with my job’. The rate of the same answer is 31.6% for everyone. So it shows that, women are happier with their job more than average. The dissatisfaction rate is nearly equal to the average.

Let’s look at the non-binary

Within 597 non-binary, 31.8% of them said ‘I am very satisfied’ with my job’. The rate is nearly equal for everyone. The dissatisfaction rate is 9.51% it is nearly 3 percent higher than the average.

Let’s look at the men

Within 77919 men 31.3% of them said ‘I am very satisfied with my job’. The rate is nearly 3 percent less than average. It shows men are rated more “slightly satisfied” with their jobs. The dissatisfaction rate is nearly equal to the average.

Question 2

Are you looking for a job actively?

I was wondering how many people are looking for a new opportunity, depending on their satisfaction level.

But first, let’s look at how many of the people are looking for a new job

As you can see from the graph, 15.2% of the people are actively looking for a new job.

Within these people, how many of them satisfied their jobs?

Happiness level has a great impact on a person’s decision about changing their job. As you can see from this graph, many people who are actively job searchers are not happy with their jobs.

Question 3

Do you code as a hobby?

Another interesting question was who code as a hobby according to their gender identity.

Women says:

Non-Binaries says:

Man says:

According to these three graphs, women spend less time to code as a hobby.

Conclusion

In this article, I tried to find an answer to some questions using the StackOverflow 2019 survey data.

  1. The satisfaction level is changing slightly between genders and people who are currently the most happy with their jobs are women.
  2. Most of the developers are not actively looking for a new position but they are open to new opportunities. The people who looking for a new jobs are slightly unhappy with their current positions. Happiness level is very important for employees.
  3. Women code 20 percent less than average as a hobby but they are much happier with their current jobs.
