When Giving Up is NOT an Option

There are probably days (even weeks, months, or maybe years) that you feel like you’re in a perpetual state of disappointment. Despite your best intentions and hard work, things don’t happen as you want them to: The money does not come in fast enough, the projects take longer to complete than anticipated (most often due to technical glitches), and the people around you (e.g., clients, vendors, partners/associates, and even family) fall through on their commitments.

All of this makes you doubt yourself: Is this going to work? And when? Will I get there (“there” being success)? How much more can I take? How much longer do I do this (the work)?

It would be easy to throw your hands up and simply give up. To yell, “Uncle!” But you don’t, because you can’t. Not at this point. You’ve come too far to throw it away.

So, what do you do?

You:

  • Get your head back in the game. Be your cheerleader, pump yourself up if you have to.
  • Be laser-focused on the work — don’t spend time thinking about the external “stuff,” the distractions.
  • Control the negative mental chatter and replace it with positive materials (e.g., inspiration books, motivational videos, etc.).
  • Remind yourself that the road to success (your dream) is difficult, fraught with challenges and setbacks. That this is simply part of the process that every successful entrepreneur has gone/goes through.

And you just keep repeating this until you get “there.”
