Hi Harry. I think you make some good points. We’ve become so binary that people cannot draw a nuanced conclusion or accept open-mindedness, thus their conclusions cannot accept that your dad was maybe being open-minded. but IMHO, your father could have played it a little less principled and coy; Ted Cruz has openly called Obama “a traitor” and says he tramples the Constitution; he also hugs it out and gets hosted by a preacher who thinks gays can be stoned to death — it’s not as if Ted Cruz is a completely unknown and/or benign entity. He is scary. And perhaps people’s “nail-on-chalkboard” visceral reaction isn’t fair, but I think your dad might do himself a favor and not play the overly principled “genuine curiosity” (which i generally laud/support) when it comes to a man (Ted Cruz) who’s shown no real genuine curisoity of his own.
