Hi James, I could not have said any of this better my self and I am a pre 1960’s born female. I do get it. I have said all along that we are heading back to the 60’s with Trump and the republicans but I am rethinking that premise some what. They will have to drag me kicking and screaming back to that era. Suppression of the women was just a daily thing. I truly think that most women were so conditioned by the oppression that they never understood what was being done to them. While the social issues are reverting to the 1960's I fear that some of the more economic and political issues are reverting to Europe in the late 1930’s. I would be interested in your opinion. My father flew bombing missions over Poland and oil fields in WWII, he was a wonderful man and father but had a lot of memories he would never talk about. I could not have asked for a better dad and watching him suffer with some of those memories made me curious. He and I were close and in an effort to understand some of his history I started to read a lot about European history from the late 1920’s through the Eisenhower era.
The other thing that really angers me are women who do not recognize what is currently happening. Not the women and men out there on the mall on 1–21–17 but those that do not see what all the fuss is about. Women, and I include myself on this, I was there, fought for rights like safe abortion, birth control, education, a spot at the table in corporations. We fought for it and now it is taken for granted in so many ways. In a way my dad fought for it too. He was an original feminist, he thought I could do anything and made certain I had the means to just that. He was my cheerleader and my dad. There was nothing in his eyes that I could not accomplish and he stood behind me in everything.
Look forward to more commiseration at anytime. Enjoyed your article.
