I will be the first to say I do not understand the plight of someone who is transgender. It is difficult for me to wrap my brain around the concept and the reality. I am merely a straight, white female, older than most but clued in on the wider world. That being said, I have no difficulty accepting anyone who is transgender and LGBQ people as someone just the same as me, a human being. We all have the same desires and needs, the same aspirations and hopes. We all want to be loved, appreciated, helped and recognized.
I find the stance that tRump has taken towards LGBTQ people as ignorant, regressive, and backward. I do believe in inclusion. We live in a frightening and dangerous world and we need everyone on board working to make it better not worse. In one tweet tRump made it exponentially worse. I am a veteran, I worked with an unbelievable variety of people on the road I chose. Never once did I consider that anyone different from me was less human or less deserving. I never chose to treat anyone “different” in fact, as I said, I attempted to include as many people as possible. THAT is what makes a leader, not someone who pontificates about his generals and the lethality of the military and the crap he spewed about trans people. Besides, since Mattis and the Joint Chiefs were taken aback by his statement, which generals did he talk to? Or is that just another lie to cover up the other lies he spewed about trans people. My feeling, and it is a strong one, is that it was another lie, heaped on the already huge pile he has strung out to coddle his base. A section of society that is regressive and demands we all march to their tune. Not me, not ever. Count me in on LGBTQ rights, give me the t-shirt and the bumper sticker, I may have my car windows broken out but ah well.
