Context, though. You know? Because

“Ed, you’re an asshole” is not the same as “wow, people can be assholes.” One is directed AT a person, one is a generalization.

Side note: using a generalization “at” a person isn’t clever or sneaky. It’s immature and obvious to everyone else but the person doing it.

It all comes down to attacking people instead of topics. It’s one thing to say “I don’t agree, and here’s why…” as opposed to “You’re an *&^(*&*#”
