I have battles with journaling sometimes, too. Have you ever tried writing with your non-dominant hand? I read about the technique years ago. It goes something like this; If there’s something you’ve been chewing on, write the question or thought with your dominant hand. Then swap hands. Because it’s more effort (and slower) to write with the non-dominant hand, different things show up on the page. It’s like the effort shuts the committee up for a while. When I tried it, it was a really interesting experience. Kind of felt like some other part of me (that I don’t see often) showed up in my left hand words. I could barely read it (so messy!) but it was interesting to try it.
