Thanks, I enjoyed this piece. I will note that many things that happen to us in life are outside our control, and (gasp) impact whether or not we achieve bucket 1, bucket 2, or neither of the buckets. :) (Bucket 1’s not so easy to achieve either, my friend- it’s not like if you “choose” it, it’s a cakewalk.) Another answer to “why aren’t you famous yet” (rather than “I don’t choose to be”) is “Wow, I haven’t found that big lever to pull on that delivers to me exactly what I want- can you show me where it is?” I’m always bemused in self-help/online philosophy posts by the fantasy that things like race, gender, economic opportunity, geographic location, whether your parents were assholes or not, have the folks you’ve run into in life been assholes or not, are completely irrelevant to outcome. Spoiler alert: they’re not.
