There is an image missing — The pregnant Madonna. I was pretty used to my slide into the invisible at 38 when I conceived my son; suddenly my shape and life was up for grabs again. Constantly interrupted by interested strangers. It put me in a panic that MOTHER was to be my image forever after and that all other status I had worked to establish would be obliterated. Gratefully I am back in my own skin at 50, but yup there are whole swaths of the populace who never see me.
