Be fair when reporting news

Listening to a discussion on the radio on Friday… All about California state workers getting a $2,500 BONUS and how the controllers office is trying to lower the tax liability on these 90,000 state workers… Of course, you are trying to calculate the total bill that is as you listen to the piece… ($238 million dollars)…

I am SO leery of all things I hear or read now that before I get upset, share or even talk about something that appears to be wrong (even on the surface), I take the time to start researching it… Turns out this $2,500 is the deal struck by the union for their workers to get the contract signed with a delayed raise… And if given as a bonus and not simply a raise, almost $800 comes out in taxes in a lump sum…

If you look further, the average income for a California state worker is $33K and some change… About $15.36 an hour…

Not so outrageous after all, huh?

Of course, California is a union state (more or less) and this is the strongest union with 1/3 of the state workers as members… So a percentage of this contract funnels back into the union as dues…

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?
