This is a great idea, as a mass action, thousands? millions? of Black Americans going to the court house to get their name changed? Love it. Perhaps then taking that rock solid ID, and then registering to vote in their new name, and some of them registering to run for public office.

The name change does cost money though, so there would need to be fundraising. Perhaps get white people to pitch in.

I am a white woman, and I changed my name as part of a relationship, and then when we were legally divorced (yay! civil rights!) I was able to get a legal name change for free. Legally separating legal name from my past was liberating. I can’t imagine what it would be like for you and Black America, but I encourage the idea. Non-violent mass action changes the world. Doing a positive action, instead of a protest is even more powerful.
