I am white and sadly, I do agree with the content of this article, I, Racist. Racism, not just in this country, but globally, is institutionalized, and has been oh, I would speculate to say, since the Metal Ages. That is when MEN discovered how to make weapons to conquer territory and oppress others: aka Might is Right. Misogyny preceded racism. I could go on and on listing the parallels between misogyny and racism, but I will not write a sermon/essay/editorial about this because just like the existence of racism, no one wants to hear about the origins of oppression, much less talk about it, or even admit it.

I am a white woman, 60 years of age, and confidently claim to be not racist, but I might be considered by many as some kind of –ist. I try not to judge others, but I do find myself judging others often by what I call intentional purposeful ignorance. When I encounter purposeful ignorance is when I think “oh you are one of them”….

Racism is the most recent manifestation of oppression throughout “his” story and it will never disappear because the fragile, threatened egos of mankind has never, and will never, be addressed with the intention of resolving.

I am not a raging ranting feminist.
Do I think all men are sick? Nope. Many men are gentle loving human beings doing good works.
Do I think all women are without blame for the condition of our planet? Of course not. But proportionally between men and women, who do you see more as the warring, greed and power obsessed?
Am I without shame? Nope — I have made my share of mistakes and behaved foolishly more times than I want to remember.

But anyone with a shred of honesty should admit that men of all races and religions with their fragile egos and “might is right” mentality, have been screwing up a good thing for the rest of us for a very long time. (Don’t get me started on those loving three sky god religions, Judaism, Muslim, and Christianity as means of oppression, divisiveness and fear of each other.) And yes, for a few thousand years now, it does appear that “white” man is the biggest puss-filled pimple on the face of civilization.

It is exhausting trying to engage anyone, especially those self-proclaimed “progressive” thinkers, in meaningful dialogue on this subject. I have tried repeatedly over the years, but everyone has their own cause to fight so the bigger picture, the bigger issue, the roots of racism and all oppressive behavior, will never be addressed. And this is intentional — it keeps us all divided.

For years, the biggest mystery of all to me is this: How is the human race so technologically advanced yet so spiritually retarded?

I wish Mr. Metta and “Those People” magazine all the success in their attempts to engage us all in meaningful dialogue and resolution of the willful self-destructive ills that beget humankind.
