The argument that Climate Change has been going on for as long as the planet has been around, is defeated with other simple arguments.
People have been dying for millions of years, therefore people can’t be murdered. Just because all people will die someday, doesn’t mean that some people can’t be murdered. What we want to be sure of is that we don’t want to murder a livable climate for the only planet we live on.
The other argument about the costs of preventing human caused climate murder is that there are many cost savings with changing the energy system humans use to get energy. Energy efficiency is most times the first method to prevent to much carbon fuels being burned. It is cheaper to prevent the waste of energy than to produce more of it. We humans seem to not spend enough on things like insulation, efficient engines and motors, better processes than would be economically prudent.
The other part of that argument is that many of the costs of non carbon fueled energy, because they are now being produced at rates greater than 1 percent of the total energy used, are coming way down.
Another argument is that we have to tax something to get Government services, we way as well tax something that we can benefit just by the taxing of it. Paying sales taxes sucks. Paying property taxes sucks. Paying income taxes sucks. Paying any taxes sucks. Paying carbon fuel taxes would also suck. Which is not to say that paying taxes is much worse than just sucking, it can destroy the lives of the people who have to pay the taxes. But not having beneficial Government services like education, police and justice systems, national defense or any number of other services is also a bad thing. If we can tax over 6 trillion dollars in a 20.5 trillion dollar economy, then we can change some of those taxes from sales taxes, property taxes, income taxes to carbon fuel taxes and be better off.
