TechCruch Debrief — from a perspective of an aspiring entrepreneur

Representing Infinitas Tech at one of the most known international startup conference in the entrepreneurial ecosystem was a wonderstruck. Business Next, the organizer for a group of Taiwanese entrepreneurs such as myself, has diligently guided us to the city. TechCruch is viewed as a gateway to the Tech Gold Rush — for publicity, investor relations, partnership alliance, and funding. For me, it was an reinvention of Infinitas Tech — re-centering our Why, polishing our How and broadening our Where.

As an exhibitor, I was overwhelmed with the choices the conference offered. There were the startup battles delivered by phenomenal entrepreneurs, highly insightful and intuitive and experienced Venture Capitalist speakers, and the booths that are hosted by people from all corners, united in the space of Moscone West by the share of a common thread — a sacred optimism that one cannot easily be found in places other than the entrepreneurial personalities.

I utilized the CruchMatch preference, which I sought to believe would be most targeted and strategic way of introducing your startup to people who already have an interest in your field of work — are recommended to the user through the Brella App. I got to meet a few VC of whom I get to pitch about my startup, and some fellow entrepreneurs of whom our works were exchanged and encouragements were returned. In addition, I find the most valuable to be the female founders round table and the inspirations gathered from the startup battles.

In sum of the experiences, the reinvention of Infinitas will be based on the most simple structure of pitch that is commonly seen and discussed: the issue and backbone story→ the solution → framing the current and potential quantitative result → ending with visioning the vertical and horizontal growth.

Tying it back to our work — Infinitas is a bike-sharing total solution startup that directs people to designated restaurant and shops, and encourages consumer behavior by offering the most appropriate discounts and item information through leveraging the inbuilt analytic system that cross-exams the behavioral data collected by the bikes. It leaves me thinking about our WHY — why are we building this? what is the good that it is bringing to our society, and how can we incorporate a value into this startup and levering our extremely talented engineers?

Starting with solving a simple issue — perhaps an issue of you own, but it has the ability to transcends person and borders for the solution to transform and disrupt the convention for the better, then there is a meaning to disrupt the world as we know it.

Secondly, The How — what are the competitive edges, the know how that sets us apart?Infinitas initially demonstrated our patented energy saving lock, bluetooth operated e-gate, and leveraging the bike manufacturing chain in Taiwan as our competitive advantage. But in truth, all marginal. We will find a even stronger competitive edge in our product that best serve to our why.

Lastly, the Where. Where are we taking this startup? where can it expand? what is the product market fit and how can we localize it and potentially scale it to everywhere of this world? Where is the networking effect of our product and service delivery? Our startup is currently very localized, and we will perform indept market search on how we can deliver the best practice in our field to enter all markets with success by having prior insight and awareness of the localization work done.

A lot of work is ahead for us, but being California, particularly in the Silicon Valley and San Francisco, the community and atmosphere enable entrepreneurs to continue to bear dreams and hold onto the orgastic future that eludes us to stretch out ourselves even further. The hurdles are tough, and the hustle is endless. I am however, humbled by those who have came before me, and optimistically embracing the ever endless transformation ahead of me.

Ending my reflection, I am grateful to be with Business Next and with my fellow Taiwanese entrepreneurs to relish in the non-replicable, innovative culture of the Bay area. If I may, I’d encourage the Taiwanese entrepreneurs out there to be not restricted by the concept of a booth is must to have. There are so many creative ways in which the essence of your startup, the spirit of your product and the mission of your delivery can be transcended through a speech, a workshop, an Q&A and multiple one-on-ones, and definitely a well delivered battle pitch. I hope to see one of us out there on stage, proud and passionate, delivering a fantastic solution at the center of stage that resonants with all.
