Welcome Post!
Hello! Welcome to my blog! I am very excited to share my experiences with you all as I pursue a career in Art Education. I will be beginning my student teaching semester at Virginia Commonwealth University this coming Monday. I am very excited to reflect and share all of the important lessons I learn with all of you.
I attempt to use a variety of mediums, concepts, themes, and motifs to allow for all students to be able to relate and have a starting point for their creativity. My goal is to make all the lessons relate back to an aspect of each student’s personal life to allow for multiple perspectives and different outcomes.
Through my lesson planning my goal is to include a wide range of different orientations, genders, cultures, and racial heritage in the artists and concepts that I feature. The cultural traditions around the world are all important and I want each of them to have a place of equal value and respect in my classroom. The best part about including a wide range of culture is getting to hear about the students personal experiences within their own cultural settings. When they are given a place to share their life, the students are more than willing to and it is a beautiful thing to witness.
Through the use of Universal Design for Learning, I allow students to use various methods to demonstrate their learning. The subject of art lends easily to allowing different skills and ability levels to have an equal voice in demonstrating knowledge. I plan to work alongside my fellow peers to incorporate core content into each lesson. This practice will reinforce learning in all areas of educational content.
As I experience implementing these ideals first hand, I will be updating and sharing the results with all of you. Join me on this exciting journey!
