I was with you, up until the last part. I think that the author is genuinely confused, and raising topics internally is one way to do that. As a woman in tech, I didn’t feel he was saying I was bad at my job, I felt he was saying that women might not be as interested in tech in equal numbers.

I think the memo also raises a good point: these topics are taboo in the workplace. He couldn’t discuss them in person, so he discussed them on a message board. This is a failing of the culture, not this individual.
