How to Eat Healthy on Vacation: What I Ate in Sunny San Diego

After a long day of traveling, my husband, friends, and I arrived at our resort in Pacific Beach. We were lucky enough that our resort was surrounded by many cafes and restaurants nearby. For breakfast we ate at The Mission. I had the breakfast, pictured above, with tofu, egg whites, yellow and green squash, and brown rice. We ate there twice that week!

We walked around Balboa Park one of the days. The cafes around the park had processed smoothies and cookies. So, I opted for these healthier snacks: Naked juice and a Kind bar.

We decided to visit Little Italy one night and found a delicious Italian restaurant called Sorrento. I indulged by eating a bowl of pasta and asparagus with pesto sauce.

Cafe 20/20 was located two minutes away from our resort. Obviously, we walked here many mornings for pre-workout smoothies!

We visited the Invictus Crossfit box one morning and worked up an appetite! We ate at this cute cafe called Cafe 21. I had an omelet with egg whites, spinach, zucchini, squash, feta cheese, and fruit on side.

Taco Tuesday called for some delicious tacos! We visited Old Town and ate at Fred’s Mexican Cafe. I had these tacos stuffed with mushrooms, zucchini, squash, cabbage, cilantro, corn, avocado, and salsa! Best tacos ever!

This mango smoothie from Cafe 20/20 was amazing! Enjoying it by the bay was even more amazing.

We kept seeing cafes advertising acai and pitaya bowls. So, of course we couldn’t leave without trying one. My acai bowl was topped with strawberries, kiwi, mango, and coconut flakes. Delish!

One of my favorite meals was from Pho Time. It was a vegetarian rice vermicelli bowl with rice noodles, tofu, carrots, cucumbers, cabbage, and peanuts. I also had vegetarian egg rolls.

Sadly, our vacation had to end. We decided to head out to Gaslamp Quarters for our last night and ate at Barley Mash. I ate a quinoa veggie burger topped with greens, tomato, cucumbers, cheese, and onions. I also ate a little bit of coleslaw. This quinoa burger definitely tasted better than any black bean burger I’ve ever had.

Overall this was a great vacation! I was able to pick healthy and vegetarian food options from all of the restaurants we visited. I highly recommend San Diego! :)
