The procedure for updating the firmware on a Linksys router is as follows:
First- Download the router firmware file
Save the latest firmware file to your primary computer by downloading it from the website. To download the file, go here. In the search support box, type the correct model number. On the back of your router, you’ll find the model and version numbers. Check the model number as well as the hardware version number. Don’t download a file that isn’t correct.
Second — Use a wire to connect the PC to the router.
With the Ethernet cable, connect the main computer to one of the LAN Ethernet ports. Using a wireless PC to upgrade firmware is not a good idea. Always use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer to the internet. Make sure your computer’s local area connection is turned on.
Third — Go to the router’s setup page.
In the address bar of your browser, type 192.168.1.1. To begin, go to the setup page. The setup page is where you may make manual changes to the settings.
Navigate to the Administration tab. As illustrated in the diagram above, go to the router Firmware Upgrade subtab.

If you’re having problems with your network, you’ll need to reset the router to factory default settings. For 15–20 seconds, press and hold the reset button on the router. A pen or a paper clip will be required. The power light will begin to blink at this point. Press and hold the reset button.
