This kind of summary does a disservice to a complex time of theorizing sex. Nor does it do justice to Andrea Dwarkin, whose writing is foundational, regardless of whether you “agree” with her or not. And the idea that sex between two powerful women who are equals is somehow anti-erotic is not true. Finally, in my view, On Our Backs was not pornography, which is a representation of the cultural and physical subjugation of women by men. It was erotica, which was great.
