RE: “Take the example I just gave of the coverage of the Peter Liang case and conflicts between and within Black and Asian communities.
Why hasn’t there been any careful, nuanced coverage of the pain that these two communities feel? (If there are, please comment below and send me links to news stories.)”
Here are two of the better essays written on this issue:
- From writer Jay Caspian Kang: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/23/magazine/how-should-asian-americans-feel-about-the-peter-liang-protests.html
- From Annie Tan, a niece of Vincent Chin:

I think the blunt answer to why there hasn’t been any nuanced coverage of the pain that the Asian and Black communities feel is, simply put, that there generally isn’t any coverage to begin with about either community unless it’s sensational, shocking, or headline-grabbing. There’s plenty of “coverage” about Asian and Black issues if you look for it on the internet, but very little of it that occurs in mainstream media outlets that we look to to provide us with our “news” aside from sites and sub-sections of sites whose sole purpose is to cover race-related issues. Even the second piece that I linked you to above was an entry written on the Medium platform and not something picked up by a news outlet or website.
