Changing Your Style
It’s easy to get used to one style of dress, so how do you redefine your style?
I usually wear suits and ties, at least 6 days a week. It keeps a certain level of respect for me, which I love, but I often feel limited and one dimensional. I had to update my style, but I wasn’t set on how!

This is my usual style of dress, it’s put together, but can sometimes be a bit over dressed.

Here are my tips on updating your style:
Follow style bloggers.
Style bloggers can often help impact your style, as well as introduce you to things you’ve never even heard about. Check out style bloggers on Instagram! Their content is free, and sometimes eye opening. One thing I love about style bloggers, is that they often aren’t afraid to break the “unwritten rules of fashion.” It’s not that we don’t know the rules, it’s just that we know how to successfully bend and break them, while still looking great doing it, and we often give pointers in our comment sections.
Check out look book videos on YouTube.
- Look books are basically showing you how garments can be paired and worn, and they can help give you ideas on how to pull it all together, or even what’s currently trending. What I love about lookbooks is that they usually show how certain clothes fit from all angles, on regular people, who aren’t all Fashion Models. Still unsure of what I mean?

Have a stylish friend help you.
In my recent lookbook, I had my friend, Joseph (@HairgodJS on IG), help me pick out garments. I told him all my sizes, we went to a store, he went his way, I went mine, and we met up at the dressing room. Together we paired outfits; some outfits were horrible (we argued a lot on several pieces) and some really worked, even though at first, I was a little reluctant. We even made a store worker be our mediator at a couple points! It was a lot to do all in one visit, but having Joseph there with me helped me fuse a more modern style with my current style, which allowed me to change, while still feeling true to myself, and getting out of my box.
So what’s the “take home?”
Here’s my grand point:
Reinventing yourself and changing your style doesn’t have to be hard. Don’t be afraid to be different, that’s what personal style is all about anyway. So no matter what you choose to wear, or how your style changes, OWN IT!
