In the start of the project, I did not have any idea until I visited Taschen Bookstore last Friday. I saw a book called Gvstav Klimt who I’m a big fan of. I opened the book to a random page and there was this picture.

This architecture attracts me a lot and I want to know the genius behind this. After doing a bunch of research, I find out that this architecture is considered one of Josef Hoffmann’s master pieces. In the process of doing researches, I realized some of Hooffmann’s artworks were exhibited in The Neue Gallerie. So I decided to visit that place on Saturday. The book also mentioned Hoffmann’s attitude of art. He said, “ For me tradition is everything- the free reign of the imagination takes second place.”

I started to think, What is traditional art? What is the standard of “traditional”?

When people mention traditional, they usually think about paintings, especially oil paintings, sculptures, and so on. Is there a stereotype of art or even traditional art? In oil paintings, what is traditional? Is “realism” traditional? For example, Klimt’s artworks. He used different textures and styles to explain art and the content he want to show. Is Klimt’s style traditional?

In Day 1, I started with making concepts, doing researches, and focusing on thinking about streams of consciousness and definitions of decorative of art.
