“What landscape did we have that could structure our social organization?”
I like this question. I haven’t used the word “landscape” for this before, but I do have a sense that “place” matters tremendously for the ways that people interact. As you ask, what happens when a team has never gathered in a physical place and only interacts through video and typed messages? If meeting in person is not an option, then I agree that working together to establish place / landscape at the beginning is essential. Perhaps shared virtual reality is the answer.
