Want to Have a Career You Love? Believe In It!

Have you spent countless hours over the course of your life dreaming of what you want to be when you grow up? An astronaut. An Olympian. A doctor. A lawyer. Those dreams put a smile on your face.
Then when you got to the adulting part of your life and you cry for 5 more minutes in bed when the alarm clock goes off on Monday morning. You don’t want to go to work. Adulting seems so much more dull than how you dreamt of it as a kid, right?
You still may be dreaming of what you want to do when you grow up, but now you simply wish you can feel passion in your job and make a great salary doing what you love. Some people dismiss that that could be a reality.
But you know there are many, many people out there that do love their jobs, right? It does actually happen. So why don’t you believe you can be one of them?
There’s a distinction between what you wish for/desire and what you believe is possible for you in your career. You may believe that you can get A job, but you may not believe you can get THE job. You know the one. It’s in the field you always wanted to work in with awesome coworkers and managers who respect you. You’re excited to go to work each day, ready to make a difference. And the cherry on top? You get paid handsomely for it.
You may tell yourself that it sounds too good to be true, but if you don’t believe that job is out there, then you have already given up on the possibility of being that happy in the 40+ hours you work at your job a week.
Belief is funny like that. When you don’t believe in yourself, it is difficult to persuade others to believe in you (kinda key to that whole getting hired thing, right?). The same goes for a job; when you don’t believe the job you want exists or that you deserve to have it, then there is no way you can get it.
Ultimately, it starts with this faith that you can find and be offered that job and that you deserve to have that kind of job. It comes down to do you believe you worthy of it? Can you trust that worthiness? A major factor for most successful people in the world is this trust, this belief. It may be difficult at first to cultivate, but you can have all the literal tools that a successful person has and still not get what you want if you don’t believe in your inherent worth.
So what can you do today to cultivate it so you go into your career transition with trust and confidence? This is where the journey really begins to the job you love.
