Quotes To Resonate With
I am an avid quote collector. Whenever a quote resonates with me, I jot it down in a pocket-sized, soft-covered Mickey Mouse journal that I received from a talk by an Effects Supervisor of the Walt Disney Animation Studios. Whether it is from a TED Talk or Momentum, there are many sources that keep my addiction alive.
Quotes, to me, are like concise yet powerful art pieces. Although they are a lot easier to interpret than many abstract artworks, quotes resonate differently to different individuals, similar to how pieces of art do. If you take a look at Roy Lichtenstein’s I… I’m Sorry!, your reasoning for why Eve is saying sorry may differ from that of your friend’s. Similarly, there are many ways a person may resonate with a quote, and it more than likely may be because of what they have been through or are currently experiencing in their lives.
I have asked numerous people — from peers to those who interviewed me for a job — what quote(s) have impacted them the most, and each time, I was greeted with a moving story of how something they heard positively impacted their lives in some way. This is why I love inspirational things that people say; just one sentence can massively affect how a person sees their life and/or the world.
The quotes I have in my compact journal have altered my perspective, motivated me, challenged my beliefs, provided me with hope, and reminded me of who I am and who I want to be.
Here are a few of the quotes I have collected. My hope is that at least one of them resonates with you in some way like they did with me.
- Pessimism narrows our focus, whereas positive emotions widen our attention and our receptiveness to the new and unexpected.
David Goleman - Nothing is impossible. The word itself says “I’m possible”
Audrey Hepburn - If you’re lucky enough to do well, it’s your responsibility to send the elevator back down.
Kevin Spacey - A man who is intimidated by me is not a man I am interested in.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - Don’t go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.
Bruce Lee - The creative adult is the child who survived.
Ursula K. Le Guin - I am enough.
Brene Brown - Define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life you’re proud to live.
