Data scientists mostly just do arithmetic and that’s a good thing

Thank you for this post! While I applaud the profession for a successful marketing campaign (creating “data scientists”), in my experience, someone who can do basic math and stats is usually all that is needed. Interestingly, I thought the statistics would be difficult to pick up, but one graduate level class was all I needed to understand the basics of things like significance tests and power analysis. Modern statistical software is pretty easy to use, and there is very little need for hand calculations.
