“I love how you did the little houses and the trees, but can you make the mountains look less like breasts?”

“How about like this?”

“Yes, that works. Can you make the path around the lake a little more heart-shaped?”

(Laughs) That is exactly why I gave up illustration after my first job after graduating from art school. I had taken the commercial art route to be practical, but quickly realized I simply didn’t want to make art under those circumstances. It’s obviously been very fulfilling for you which is fabulous!

I’m going down a different path with my art, but your lesson is right on — follow what interests you and keep coming back to it. Great article — thanks for writing it!
