Can you see my whiteness? Can you see my other-ness?

My cousin is white passing. Sometimes she tells me about how white people around her will talk shit about Latinos, and so she waits until they’re nice and comfortable with their racism before revealing she is mixed.

Her last name is Rios.

When you’re mixed, you don’t get to be both races. You get to be the race you look like. Obama is black. Cameron Diaz is white. Drake is black.
